Overview
Started in 1954, the Missoula Symphony Orchestra is comprised of townspeople and University of Montana faculty and students. In 1976, the Missoula Symphony Orchestra Association non-profit was formed to help support the symphony.
Now in its 56th year, the symphony’s concert season consists of 5 scheduled concerts, each featuring 2 performances, as well as a free outdoor summer concert held in downtown Missoula. Rounding out the annual roster are two Youth Concerts, a Family Concert, Holiday Concert and various educational performances.
The symphony is conducted by Darko Butorac and also features the Missoula Symphony Chorale.
Location/Directions
The Missoula Symphony performs at University Theater in the Fine Arts building on U of M Missoula’s campus. The Fine Arts building is located on Maurice Avenue, near the Music Hall and Social Sciences building.
To reach University Theater from I-90, take the Orange St. exit (104) and turn left at N Orange St. Turn left onto W Broadway St then take the third right onto N Higgins. Turn left onto 6th St E, right on Arthur Ave, and left on Connell Ave. Finally, turn right onto Maurice Ave.
A large parking lot is located 2 blocks north on Maurice, near the School of Law. Other parking areas are within a few blocks of the Fine Arts building.
The Missoula Symphony Association office is located at 320 E Main Street in downtown Missoula.
